Handheld Laser Welding: How To Judge And Deal With Welding Gun Lens Damage And Prevention

The principle of laser welding is to use electricity to convert it into laser light, and melt the welding wire and the base material at high temperature to achieve the fusion effect. However, laser welding machines have only been around for a short time, and when a fault occurs during use, users often don’t know how to deal with it. Next, we will explain the common types of faults one by one and provide common solutions. Today, I will explain to you how to determine whether the welding gun lens is damaged, and how to deal with the fault.

Symptoms of lens damage: weak light

The light is very strong at the beginning, then gradually becomes weaker/weak, resulting in the inability to fuse or sparks at the copper nozzle.

Cause Analysis

This situation is usually caused by damage to the welding gun lens, including but not limited to the protective lens, focusing, collimation, and reflection. Any one or more of these damages may cause this situation.

1.Damage classification

If the motor swings abnormally due to interference, or the red light is too biased and not adjusted, the sealing ring will generally burn out.

2.Damage to the convex surface of the platform lens

It is usually common in pollution, such as when it is replaced without protection, and the shape is dot-like black spots.

3.Flat surface damage of platform lens

Due to diffuse reflection of laser, most of them are caused by reflection, forming a focus on the lens, burning the coating, and appearing as white spots. The convex surface also has this form, and the formation principle is the same.

Damage to the protective mirror is generally caused by slag backflow and contamination during replacement.

Consequences of not replacing damaged lenses in time

Replace the protective lens and check the focus first, then check the reflection and collimation, and replace the damaged lens. Also check whether the laser fiber head is dirty or damaged.

1.Processing performance decreased

When the protective lens is contaminated or damaged, the first problem that arises is that it will affect the processing performance and quality of laser welding/cutting/cleaning, resulting in unstable results and abnormal equipment conditions.

2.Equipment damage

If the protective lens is not replaced after an abnormal situation occurs in the equipment laser, the laser beam will deviate from the predetermined path, and then all the internal lenses will be damaged, further causing damage to the internal optical components of the laser head, and even causing more serious damage to the equipment.

3.Security Risks

Damaged lenses can no longer effectively block hot splashes, increasing the risk of eye and skin injuries to operators.

Troubleshooting

Before operation, wash your hands with detergent and dry them, then wipe your hands again with cotton dipped in alcohol. The second step is to wipe the area around the protective lens clean with a dust-free cloth and alcohol.

(3)Laser welding machine lens replacement

After wiping it clean, loosen the screws and pull out the protective lens holder.

(5)Laser welding machine lens replacement

After pulling it out, place it on a clean, dust-free cloth. Be sure to seal the window of the protective mirror holder with clean masking tape or a dust cover to prevent dust from entering.

(7)Laser welding machine lens replacement

Rotate and remove the pressing ring to replace the focusing lens. When replacing the focusing lens, do not distinguish between the front and back sides. After replacement, lock the pressing ring.

Finally, remove or open the masking paper or dust cover, with the welding head facing down, insert the protective seat mirror and window parallely, and cover the dust box.
